In his work ‘Asylum’, Be’er examines concepts such as identity, foreignness, oppression, discrimination, domination, freedom, belonging, homeland, longing, and home. According to him, these concepts are relevant to every human being from an existential view, wherever he or she may happen to be situated in place and time. The quest for a place that is identified as a home is part of the human existential experience.

“In his most recent work, Be’er confronts some of the burning issues on the international stage : Refugeehood , immigration, and the fate of asylum seekers. Approaching the issue from an existential point of view, raising questions that examine concepts related to immigration; such as ‘homeland’, identity, belonging, foreignness, longing, and home. According to Be’er, these are concepts that are relevant to every person. The sense of refugeehood is an existential experience, and part of our search for home and identity.”
